Gabriel Lauber is one of the last warriors of the extreme-energy-spirit-music -also known as freejazz-, always performing at highest intensity and spiritual awareness. Deeply rooted in the old-school freejazz idiom, he has made it his way of life to maintain this tradition-in-danger-of-extinction with an almost religious approach. Also having witnessed the birth and growth of the grind core/death metal genre and being drawn to it's brutal sonic statement only has made his musical vision more lethal and uncompormising.

Gabriel was born in Switzerland on july 2, 1975. From an early age he was exposed to jazz - mainly bop and free -, wich had a profound impact on him.

At the age of 14 he stopped eating meat and began playing drums. After a short time drumming he knew that he would get serious about music and studied a few years at the jazz school in Luzern before becoming a student of swiss master-percussionist Pierre Favre.

In the year 2001 he moved to Mexico where he has lived/worked ever since.

In 2003 he formed his working band Zero Point together with saxophonist German Bringas and Julio Clavijo on guitar, latter got replaced by contrabassist Itzam Cano in the fall of 2005. With this band he has played numerous shows at different venues/festivals all over Mexico as well as recorded for Bringas' Jazzorca Records, his own Dimensional Recordings and Sweden's Ayler Records.

Other projects include Antimateria with saxophonist Remi Alvarez and Itzam Cano formed in 2006 and Onslaught with Canada's Darrell Zimmerman on tenorsax and pianist Andres Motta. From 2008-2010 Gabriel played with Chicago's "Ornette-Coleman-alumni" Claude Lawrence, first as duo and later as trio with Cano, playing only Lawrence's own compositions. In 2010 Cano and Lauber started working in another power-unit called D/zazter Ens with Monterrey based guitarist Juan Castañon and soprano sax wizard Bruno Angeloni from Roma, Italy.

Gabriel has performed with such outstanding musicians as Marco Eneidi, Elliott Levin, Peeter Uuskyla, William Parker, Claude Lawrence, Bruno Angeloni, Dennis, Stefan and Aaron Gonzalez, Phillip Greenlief and many more. He is still working with Zero Point, D/zazter Ensemble, Onslaught and Antimateria and plays sax-drums duos with Ernesto Martinez, German Bringas and Remi Álvarez as well as having an ongoing musical relationship with Elliott Levin and Marco Eneidi.

Over the years he has played hundreds of shows, from underground hard-core venues, freak holes, festivals to the fancy jazz clubs (where they do serve wine with the food), as well as having opened gigs for such distinctive acts as Ruins/Japanese New Music Festival, the Sun Ra Arkestra and grindcore legends Agathocles.

Besides his work as musician/performer/improviser he also works as private drumset instructor.

Gabriel Lauber plays "Ray-Ayotte-era" Ayotte Custom Drums, Istanbul, Istanbul Agop, Ufip & Wuhan Cymbals, Axis Percussion Hardware, Trick Pro 1-V Pedals, Evans Drumheads and sits on a Roc-n-Soc Throne.
